Climate vulnerability scenario of the agricultural sector in the Bicol River Basin, Philippines

This paper investigated the vulnerability of agriculture sector and rural livelihoods in Bicol River Basin (BRB) Philippines to projected changes climate. The geographical characteristics BRB feature eight major sub-basins or watersheds consisting Libmanan-Pulantuna, Ragay Hills, Thiris, Naga-Yabo, Pawili River, Waras-Lalo, Naporog, Quinali. study applied combination participatory tools Climate Risk Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) framework gather information on local climate vulnerabilities contexts. Briefly, CRVA employed geospatial modeling utilized several indicators which are presumed affect including exposure, sensitivity, adaptive capacity were aggregated provide an index vulnerability. enabled us identify areas exposure pointed greatest need for strengthened risk management. Our findings revealed that was perceived be relatively prevalent typhoons, flooding, drought identified contribute significant impacts livelihood. Furthermore, our suggested regional differences BRB. majority towns central northwestern portions will largely experience increased vulnerability, particularly, Thiris sub-basin some parts Libmanan-Pulantuna sub-basins. On contrary, entire Quinali region south is have lowest index. clear policy implication these accounts how mobilize developmental thrusts both disaster reduction change adaptation at sub-national level reinforce local-based priority setting interventions policies.
